Bee Cave & Rollingwood
Bee Cave and Rollingwood are each located in Western Travis County, with Bee Cave being approximately 10 miles west of downtown Austin and Rollingwood much more centrally located, just three minutes west of the state capital. Much of the business and industry sectors in this part of Travis County focus on the tourism dollars that are generated from the region. Lodging, food and beverage, shopping, entertainment including live music events, golf and water recreation comprise many of the businesses located near these communities and in neighboring cities and towns that are also considered part of the Lake Travis area. Here, the area is populated with several large marinas, world-class golf courses and travel accommodations that range from intimate bed and breakfasts to large resorts. The area is also home to an array of independently owned restaurants and bar and grill establishments.
For those living in Bee Cave, the short commute into Austin is ideal for fun-filled trips into the city. During the workweek, short commutes are also commonplace for those working or going to school in the metro area. Back home, the serenity of quiet neighborhoods and gorgeous landscapes makes unwinding from a long day simple. In the spring, roadsides and open fields are dotted with colorful wildflowers such as the Indian Paintbrush and vast fields of Bluebonnets. Autumn brings vibrant reds, oranges and yellows as leaves announce the coming of a new season. Summer is a time for boating on the lake, swimming at Barton Springs, or enjoying an outdoor barbeque. Winter is mild with a touch of cool air.
The Greater Austin Area
The region is a paradise with boating, camping, fishing, hunting, tennis and golf being the primary activities enjoyed by residents and tourists alike. The local merchants have flourished as a result by offering unique local shops and boutiques to compete with larger retail stores and shopping malls with many nationally known retailers. Further adding to the economic boom of the past decade is the presence of the University of Texas in Austin. Once a simple college town, Austin’s outreach to communities throughout the region is continuously expanding to include smaller communities and towns such as Bee Cave and Rollingwood. Today, local bars, restaurants and taverns are just as likely to include college students from the university as they are to include residents who have lived in either of these localities for 50 years.
The opportunities prevalent in Austin make living in this region very unique as Austin is simply not like the rest of Texas. From the quirky cast of characters that populate Congress Avenue to burnt orange-clad University of Texas students and from four-star restaurants to down-home barbeque joints, the capital city stands apart from the rest. Austin is recognized as the Live Music Capital of the World and for good reason. On any given night, over 200 venues feature live music ranging from country, blues and rock and roll to western swing, hip-hop and Latin jazz. The largest concentration of venues is found downtown in the Warehouse District and along Sixth Street.
Austin also supports a thriving arts and cultural scene, nurturing scores of musicians, artists and entrepreneurs. Within city limits there are 20 museums, dozens of art galleries and more than 60 performance companies. Some of the more popular attractions include the Mexi-Arte Museum, Arthouse, Austin Museum of Art, George Washington Carver Museum, Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum, Paramount Theatre, State Theatre, One World Theatre, Ballet Austin and the Austin Lyric Opera. The University of Texas main campus is also a major cultural attraction for people of all ages. From campus museums and performance halls to the schools thriving athletic department, locals embrace the university’s student population as much as the student population embraces the local citizenry.
